Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia has an opening for a Senior Manager of our Jewish Information and Referral Service bureau (JIRS). The Senior Manager and volunteers provide community members with timely and accurate information about resources and events and facilitates access to needed support services. The bureau also maintains several administrative informational databases and lists.

Major Position Responsibilities Include

Maintain the main JIRS resource database, including:

Review and update information about local services provided by Jewish and non-Jewish agencies and other community groups

Update and edit the Jewish Exponent’s Guide to Jewish Philadelphia

Maintain other databases, contact lists and documents including agency and synagogue staff lists, Rabbis, Jewish Federation security contact list and synagogues in Greater Philadelphia

Manage the submissions and event posts submitted by event planners in the general Jewish community and the Jewish Federation staff

Staff, train and supervise the volunteers of the JIRS Call Center and answer e-mails submitted to info@jewishphilly.org

Make referrals to various agencies and community service groups and do appropriate follow up

Identify service need trends through monitoring of client inquiries

Participate in Jewish Federation and community events to enhance awareness of the JIRS

Gather the information for a monthly e-newsletter to key stakeholders. Work with marketing department to manage the layout and distribution of the newsletter

Maintain the database for donated burial sites and services

Successful Applicants Will Possess the Following Skills and Experiences

A bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, urban studies, community planning, etc. (an advance degree such as an MSW, MPH, MPA, is a plus)

One to three years’ experience working in or utilizing the social service system.
Basic understanding of government social service programs and familiarity with the social service systems in Greater Philadelphia and Pennsylvania

Ability to use MS Word, MS EXCEL and MS Access. Experience and comfort with using other client databases and with performing resource research on the internet

Excellent phone demeanor

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with Jewish
Federation colleagues, volunteers and outside vendors

Very good organizational, analytical and problem solving skills

Demonstrated judgment and discretion in executing assignments

Experience in working with persons with psychological needs is a plus
