ART AND APPETITE DEENA GERSON
What is our obsession with depicting our food?
Is it a still life or is it a meal? Sometimes an apple is more than a piece of fruit. When did we stop eating with our hands and turn a meal into a place to show class, manners, and etiquette? From primitive man till today, let’s study the history of food in art. Don’t come hungry!!!!
Deena has been an art historian for over 40 years. Having taught in the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s education department and having been a docent there as well as the Barnes Foundation, she loves to interact with fellow viewers to find new and various ways of seeing paintings and sculpture. Her talks, tours and presentations cover Women in Art, Art and Medicine, Jewish Art, Children in Art, American Art, Art and Nature, Modern Art etc. and can tailor a talk into a conversation dealing with a group’s particular interests.
