Eldad Beck was born in Haifa in 1965. He holds a BA in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the
Sorbonne University in Paris. He has been a journalist and writer since his military service
and has served as a correspondent for the Middle East on Army Radio and in the newspaper
Hadashot, as foreign news editor for Haaretz, and at Israeli media outlets in France, Austria and
Germany, and from 2001 to 2002 served as the correspondent of Yedioth Ahronoth in Germany
and Central Europe. In 2015 Beck received the “Ambassadors on the Net” award from the University
of Haifa for his contribution as a journalist to combat modern anti-Semitism and to strengthen
Israel’s image in the world. Eldad Beck is one of the rare Israeli journalists who reported from Arab
and Muslim countries, such as Iran, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan – about major events in
the Middle East. He is the author of several books including Beyond the Border, Germany at
Odds: A Contemporary Testimony, and Chancellery: Merkel, Israel and the Jews.
