This presentation will consider the origins and history of religious anti-Judaism in Christianity, its mutation into racialist antisemitism in the Middle Ages and the Enlightenment, the birth after the Shoah of what Pope Francis has called a “journey of friendship,” and prospects for the future. Philip A. Cunningham is Professor of Theology and Co-Director of the Institute for Jewish-Catholic Relations of Saint Joseph’s University. The author of Seeking Shalom: The Journey to Right Relationship between Catholics and Jews, he is also the immediate past president of the International Council of Christians and Jews.
