United States Holocaust Memorial Chairman Elie Wiesel said, “A memorial unresponsive to the future would also violate the memory of the past.” Nearly 75 years since the Holocaust and 25 years since the genocide in Rwanda, the Museum is fulfilling its mandate serve as a living memorial to the Holocaust by studying the choices made by individuals and institutions during the Holocaust and striving to make preventive action a routine response when the signs of genocide and other mass atrocities appear. The Museum provides education, engaging and inspiring the public to learn more and consider what they can do to prevent these atrocities in the future.
