Hoarding disorder is widely sensationalized in the media, but it is a real and crippling problem for many in our community, especially older adults. Join JFCS for an insightful workshop on the mental health concerns behind hoarding disorder, legal matters that surface in homes where hoarders live, and how to approach hoarding from a perspective of care and compassion.

Kimberly Rae Miller is a bestselling author, editor, journalist and blogger. Her 2013 memoir, Coming Clean, about growing up in a hoarding family, has sold over 200,000 copies worldwide and was picked by both Amazon and Elle magazine as one of the best books of the year, and it was a nominee for the 2013 Goodreads Choice Awards.
Jedidiah Siev, PhD, Beyond the Clutter: Understanding Hoarding Disorder and Treatment Options
Jedidiah Siev, PhD, is Assistant Professor at Swarthmore College. Previously, he directed the Anxiety Treatment Center and founded the OCD and Related Disorders Program at Nova Southeastern University. His research focuses on information processing, judgment and decision making, and meta-cognitive processes involved in the maintenance and reduction of OCD, hoarding, and anxiety.
David Wengert, MSW, Hoarder’s Rights: The Intersection of Mental Health and the Justice System
David Wengert, MSW, is a social worker in the Housing Unit at Community Legal Services in Philadelphia, where he advocates for tenant rights and fights homelessness by preventing eviction.

The Fran and Elliot Kane Memorial Lecture, lovingly and generously funded by Natalie Packel Markowitz, is established in memory of Fran Kane z”l, a longtime employee of JFCS and one of the founding Care Managers for Senior Horizons and Dr. Elliot Kane z”l, a longtime, dedicated volunteer to JFCS’ Hospice Program.

There is free parking in the Brodsky Center lot, as well as meter and 2-hour parking on surrounding streets. Please use the entrance on Montgomery Avenue. Please be aware that due to increased security all attendees will be asked to show ID.
