This program is a discussion with Julie Kornfeld, a staff attorney and long-time refugee advocate, about the global refugee crisis. Julie will share her personal connection to the cause, debunk some common misconceptions about refugees, and explain the current administration’s refugee policies and their effects.
Julie Kornfeld is a Staff Attorney at the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), an organization based in New York, that represents refugees and Special Immigrant Visa applicants before UNHCR and the US Government. Julie represented Haider Al Shawai, one of the first travelers affected by the Muslim Ban and helped to mobilize the thousands of lawyers at airports across the country following the first Muslim ban. Julie also assists with IRAP’s strategic international initiatives, identifying and developing pilot programs to build the capacity and effectiveness of new pathways to safety for refugees.
