Hungry for Change: FAQ

Who should register?

Anyone and everyone interested in food security, recovery and justice is welcome. With activities, learning sessions, keynote addresses and the opportunity to shop for local and sustainable goods and services, there will be something for everyone at this summit.

Do I have to be Jewish to attend?

All are welcome and the topics covered by activities, keynotes and workshops will range greatly.

Do I need to bring photo ID to the conference?

For security purposes, photo identification (preferably a driver’s license) will be required to enter the building.

Who counts as a student?

Anyone who is a student in any educational institution is welcome to register for the reduced rate.

Who is providing lunch and is it kosher?

Miss Rachel’s Pantry will be catering lunch. All items at lunch will be both vegan and kosher. Miss Rachel’s Pantry’s kosher supervision is by the International Kosher Council.

Can I bring snacks with me?

A variety of snacks will be available for purchase in the marketplace.

Can I come for part of the day?

Definitely. The day begins with optional morning sessions offsite, included for no additional fee, but if you are unable to attend in the morning that will not affect your experience during the day at our summit. In addition, the summit has many breaks in the day between sessions, allowing you to come and go as your schedule requires.

What is the difference between the morning and the afternoon?

The optional morning sessions will provide small groups with the opportunity to tour and learn at a local organization. In the afternoon, 2100 Arch Street will be filled with a mix of keynote addresses from industry leaders, topical workshops, and the opportunity to support our vendors and schmooze over a delicious communal lunch.

How can I get there on public transportation?

2100 Arch Street is easily accessible by public transportation.  Some suggestions include: Septa’s 48 bus stops at the corner of 21st and Arch. The 33 and 38 drop off at 20th and Arch, and the 27 drops off at 20th and JFK. The 17 drops off at 20th and Market, and the 7 drops off at 22nd and Arch. In addition, the 11, 13, 34, and 36 trolley lines stop at 22nd and Market. For more information on Septa’s routes, click here.

Our building is also only a 15 minute walk from both 30th Street and Suburban Stations.

Where can I park if I choose to drive?

Street parking on most of the streets surrounding 2100 Arch Street is free on Sundays. There is also a small parking lot immediately behind 2100 Arch Street, on Walden Street. Additionally, there is a new lot at the corner of 20th and Arch, as well as a lot on 23rd Street between Race and Cherry.

Will there be activities for children?

Students interested in food systems are welcome in all sessions.

There will also be informal children’s programming from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Parents will need to sign a waver if they will not be staying in attendance with their children. Our child-friendly room will feature our favorite Israeli building blocks, Ollie Blocks, PJ Library Books, crafts projects and a story hour.

Who should register for the continuation of the conference on Monday, and how do I do that?

The second day will be ideal for professionals and donors working in the field of food justice. Click here for more information and to register. If you have any questions, contact Brian Gralnick at bgralnick@jewishphilly.org or 215.832.0850.

Can I earn Social Work Continuing Education Units for attending the conference?

Good news! Social Work CEUs are pending for both days of this conference. Paperwork for those interested will be available at registration.
