The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is devastated by the reports of an active shooter targeting Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, this afternoon.

We are relieved and grateful that no one was hurt and that local security acted swiftly and decisively to protect everyone on the synagogue’s campus. We stand with Temple Israel and the Greater Detroit Jewish community as they recover from this terrifying incident.

While the investigation into the incident is still ongoing, this is yet another frightening reminder of the impact of rising antisemitism. In the face of hatred, we will continue to live our Jewish lives openly and proudly.

Our security team is in close coordination with our partners and law enforcement to monitor local security. At this time, there are no known threats to our community. We ask everyone to remain vigilant and follow standard security protocols. If you observe anything suspicious, please report it immediately to local law enforcement and notify our security team.

In partnership with the Secure Community Network (SCN), ADL (Anti-Defamation League), Community Security Service (CSS), and Community Security Initiative (CSI) of New York, the Jewish Federation recommends that Jewish communities across North America remain vigilant and maintain heightened security measures.
