The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia takes pride in our strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency, which is why we are honored to announce that we have earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.

Only 1 in 4 charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of a 4-star rating.

We appreciate your support of our mission and impact within the community, and hope that with this new rating, you feel even more confident in the upstanding nature of the Jewish Federation and the work we do each and every day.

“From my arrival in June 2021, it was paramount that the Jewish Federation achieve this rating, and I’m so proud of the team who worked to accomplish this,” said Michael Balaban, Jewish Federation President and CEO. “Through the professional leadership of our finance team, Board of Directors and finance committee, we made strategic decisions to bolster our governance and financial accountability as part of our fiduciary responsibility to the community.”

Using objective and data-driven analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating since 2002. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness to its ratings methodology. These “Accountability & Transparency” metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities have best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and whether they openly share basic information about their organization with their donors and other stakeholders.
