To celebrate the holiday of Purim, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is gathering the Old York Road community for an annual carnival, complete with costumes, hamantaschen, prizes, inflatables and more.

Purim, celebrated this year from sundown on March 13 to the evening of March 14, marks the Jewish people’s victory over Persian Empire official Haman’s plot to annihilate them.

During Purim, Jews celebrate the story of their survival by dressing up in costume, going to parties, and eating Hamantashen – a triangular filled-pocket pastry. The name refers to Haman, the villain in the Purim story.

At a time when antisemitism is on the rise, the Jewish Federation will bring together Jewish and non-Jewish community members to celebrate Jewish tradition and joy.

PRESS ACCESS:

  • To cover and attend this community event, press is required to RSVP by 5pm ET on March 14 by emailing: phillyfed@redbanyan.com.
  • Max Moline, Director of Community Development at the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, is available for interviews.
