Adults aged 60 and older, both Jewish and non-Jewish, receive the support they need to maintain and thrive in their Northeast Philadelphia homes while staying connected to the community.
More than 65,000 of Philadelphia’s older adults live in this area.
A NORC, naturally occurring retirement community, is a community that has a large proportion of residents over 60 but was not specifically planned to meet the needs of older adults living on their own. The residents face various obstacles that make it hard for them to perform daily activities like grocery shopping and taking care of their homes.
This innovative initiative, operated by Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Greater Philadelphia, helps older adults living within the ZIP codes of 19111, 19114, 19115, 19116, 19149 and 19152.
The NORC staff provides:
In-home assessments* Information and referral to community-based services Assistance with benefit enrollment Home maintenance and repairs Transportation to medical appointments as available based on eligibility* Socialization programming* Friendly phone calls by volunteers to help alleviate isolation Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor Volunteer Program – Opportunity to either receive or give assistance *Services offered are currently limited by COVID-19. Precautionary measures are being followed.
HOW TO CONNECT
If you would like to enroll in the NORC @ JFCS program the membership fees are $50.00/year per individual and $80.00/year per household with (2) or more individuals over 60. For more information please contact us at 215.320.0351 or email@example.com.
HOW YOU CAN BE A VOLUNTEER
Volunteers are a key component in the NORC @ JFCS’ success. We provide (3) annual programs that support individuals living in the geography. The Fall, MLK and Spring programs are a great way to volunteer by pitching in with raking, outdoor clean up, winterization projects, and minor home exterior repairs. In addition, we offer opportunities to be a friendly caller in our Phone-a-Friend program. If you would like to get involved, please contact 215-320-0351 or email Naadiya at firstname.lastname@example.org.
