This Friday evening in Jerusalem, as worshipers left Shabbat services, a terrorist opened fire in a heinous attack on civilians, killing at least seven and wounding many others. We are horrified and appalled by this murderous attack.
Seventy-eight years after the liberation of Auschwitz, on the day the world commemorates the atrocity of the Holocaust, it is unbearable that Jews are still being murdered simply for being Jews.
While a specific group has not claimed responsibility, Hamas and Islamic Jihad must be condemned for promoting and celebrating this atrocity. Together with the Palestinian Authority, these terrorist organizations should be held accountable for inciting acts of violence. As long as terrorist organizations continue to target innocent Israelis, Israel must be able to do whatever is necessary to protect her citizens.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia stands in solidarity with the people of Israel and all those who stand against antisemitism and terror.
