Black history is American history. The story of Black Americans is woven into the fabric of this nation, shaping its culture, laws and progress. From the fight for civil rights to contributions in science, business, the arts and beyond, Black history is a testament to resilience, innovation and the pursuit of justice.

As we celebrate Black History Month, The New Golden Age reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the enduring partnership between the Black and Jewish communities in Greater Philadelphia. Rooted in a shared history of struggle and triumph, we honor the legacy of collaboration that fueled the civil rights movement and recommit ourselves to rebuilding the bridges that once united us.

Through The New Golden Age, a coalition led by Culture Changing Christians and the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, we are forging a new path forward—one that strengthens our collective voice against racism, antisemitism and all forms of bigotry.

This Black History Month, we reaffirm our commitment to:

  • Rebuilding the Bridge to Beat Bigotry – Standing together against antisemitism and racism, just as our communities did in Selma and throughout the civil rights movement.
  • Enhancing Security and Violence Prevention – Addressing violence in our communities and ensuring the safety of our shared spaces.
  • Amplifying the Social Safety Net – Expanding resources and opportunities so all members of our communities can thrive.

Introducing Our Monthly Town Hall Series – Launching in March

To strengthen our partnership and foster meaningful dialogue, The New Golden Age is launching a monthly town hall series on Tuesday, March 4. These gatherings will provide a space for community members to come together and engage in open, honest conversations about the critical issues facing our communities today. From combating bigotry to promoting public safety and economic opportunity, these discussions will drive action and deepen our shared commitment to justice and unity.

Black history reminds us that the pursuit of justice is a shared responsibility. The fight for civil rights was strengthened by the partnership between Black and Jewish leaders who worked side by side to demand equality. Today, we carry forward that legacy, knowing that our struggles and victories are interconnected.

Inspired by the words of Rabbi Hillel, “If I am not for myself, who is for me? And if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” (Pirkei Avot 1:14), we commit to meaningful dialogue, action and advocacy—ensuring that our alliance is not just symbolic, but a catalyst for real change.

We celebrate the past while shaping the future—together, this Black History Month.
